Dear diary,
Since I left you a lot more has happened; even more than I said had happened before... for reals. So, we met Adam Forkner (VVRSSNN) and Dave Longstreth (The Dirty Projectors) in Chapel Hill, NC. When I say "we" I mean tour crew 2.0, which consists of me, Rob and our new, and hopefully lifetime, friend Luke Fishbeck (Lucky Dragons). Adam and Dave were in Chapel Hill just to hang out on a day off before they played at the venue we were playing at. The show was unremarkable and very, very poorly attended. We partied hard, woke up the next day and jammed the direst blues jam I think I've ever heard. Adam is a brilliant 5-stringed bass player. We hung out at Luke's cousin's tattoo shop for an hour while we decided if we wanted to play a show in Asheville, NC in place of Goodiepal (Dat Politics), who has cancelled his US tour. Luke is real good friends with Goodiepal and now Rob and I are as well. He is a very strange and funny man. He is from Denmark, but now lives in the Ferral Islands, which are above Scotland in the Arctic Circle. Anyway... we ended up driving to Asheville to play the show. It was awesome. As soon as we arrived we had the best reggae jam and ate vegan pizza. The 5 of us were crammed into a half an hour, so we each played a song in round-robin fashion. We went around the circle twice and ripped shit up. We were grabbing the mic and talking a lot about RIL music and Portland and shizz. It was fun, for sure. After the show we decided that tour crew 2.0 would drive to Florida and Adam and Dave would stay in Asheville, then move on to Nashville and meet us in New Orleans. I mean, that was always the plan, we just thought we were going to wake up real early and make the 10 hour drive a day-drive. NOPE. We drove ALL NIGHT to St Augustine. Shit was hot. I drove all the way through Georgia.. and then some! We ended up getting in to St Augustine (the oldest city in the US) around 8AM. We drove the the beach and jumped in the almost frighteningly warm Atlantic Ocean. It was beautiful. We crashed real hard at the very nice home of Mikel and Kelsi... we watched Star Wars Episode II real loud and slept on the floor and couch until around 5PM. Then we played a pool party. Floridian vibration. Thank you to Bill, Mikel, Kelsi and Mary.
