This is what it looks like out of my window right now. It looks like what I used to think 4PM looks like. But now 4PM looks like 10PM. It's all wuzzy-wuzzy... which means totally CRAZY.
So I've started working on two albums. One is a tribute album of sorts, using only a single source for sampling.. then resampling and chopping and making the original source almost unrecognizable. It's been fun making stuff for this so far.
The other one is sort of an installation. I'm going to make electronic music that is going to be played mostly for people who maybe haven't ever heard electronic music? So, some songs will be very, very abstract and hard to listen to.. while other songs will be pretty straight up, or even house-y. Always made with the "subject" in mind. Then, I'm going to take one song at a time and drive to a densely-populated area and play the song very loudly out of my car. I'm going to set up a video camera and maybe stand or dance by or in the car with or without some of my friends. The goal is to get people to come up and ask me/us what the music is.. or maybe even be asked to turn it off. I think a car with all the doors and the hatch-back (my car is a station wagon) open will look really funny. Places like downtown Portland, and a Target parking lot are my first ideas.. I hope no one tries to punch me or anything. Oh. The release will be something like a "enhanced CD," where the regular CD audio is the songs by themselves, and the videos on the "enhanced" part would have the audio from the camera.. so you'll get to hear people yell at me, etc., in addition to the songs.
Oh, and YES. I'm really going to be on a reality show. This show won't take place on television.. at first (or at all). It's going to be an internet reality show. There will be 6 cameras. One in each corner of the room I'll be living in, one on my laptop and one that is a constant view of my laptop screen. More on this later..
Lastly, I changed how the archives are accessed, and I added a page with every entry listed on it. Is this okay?
good idea for an album. i wish more people would do stuff like that, play electronic music in a target parking lot. gotta open their minds! my friend just moved out to portland in august, let me know when you think you might do this and i'll tell him to go see the magic. xoxox.
