Yesterday I ate lunch with my good old friend Ritchey. She and I are in this band together called The Badger King. We are real happy because we were just informed that we got a grant for our opera, The Showering Dragons. Thank you RACC! We've been working on this damned opera since we've known each other, in fact, it was the very first extracurricular friendship thing we did together.
It started off three years ago, when Ritchey played me a couple songs on her acoustic guitar and I got really excited about making them into rock songs. So we recorded a handful of the opera songs with me on drums and Ritchey on guitar and singing. They sounded pretty good. Then we started the TBK 5-person band, made an album, toured, broke up the band and started using my iBook to make new songs and new versions of old songs. The opera stuff started sounding so good to us on the computer that after touring and putting out a couple EPs, we wanted to get the opera finished. While working on it, our friend Reed approached us and asked if we wanted to work on a film for the opera as well. We said yes and that took a very long time to finish. So now, we have this opera. We've performed it three times and it's been really awesome. We want to tour with it SO BADLY, but we figure we shouldn't until it's released.. which is the hard part. The film ended up being just as much of a part as the music. It's really beautiful. So, now we have to find a label that can afford to put out a CD and a DVD, preferably in the same package. I was thinking that it could be like a 2-disc CD, with a CD of the music and a DVD of the film and the music together. So, if you run a label or know someone that does, get them in. We love to tour. We will sell however many copies you print. DONE.
In other news.. I'm VERY SCARED for the battle tomorrow. Please wish me luck! Cross your fingers, toes, legs, etc.
