Tonight I became a bowling champion. I attended the "Bowling with Busse," an event for mayoral candidate Phil Busse, at the AMF lanes on Powell. I "rolled" a prize-winning score of 197. This is a score I've never met before. I haven't even shook hands with this score's much younger brother 150. I never thought I was good at bowling, although it might run in my family. Here comes an awesome story. When I was 15, maybe younger, I went on an afternoon date with my Mom to the local bowling alley in Astoria. I played pretty poorly.. probably rolled something like a 60 or 90 at best. But my Mom.. my Mom.. I watched my mother play a perfect game. YES! A strike on EVERY frame. This was insane. My Mother isn't a professional bowler. Dude, she isn't even an amateur. I don't think she had bowled at all that year.. we would go bowling maybe, maybe, once a year. Totally amazing. I'm glad that tonight I sort of gave her a shout out.. I'd like to think that my game was a reference to her game in 1994, 1995 or 1996.. I only made four strikes in a row, but I tried to bowl like my Mom.

There you have it.

For those of you in Portland, OR, I forgot to mention a show that is happening tomorrow/tonight (Wednesday the 17th) BEFORE the laptop battle at Holocene. I'm playing a show with my friends Adrian and Zac at Seaplane, a small boutique on Belmont. The show is at 7PM and the lineup is as follows:

YACHT
Parenthetical Girls
Thanksgiving

Immediately after the show we're going to rush to Holocene and battle it up. I am, at least. The cool thing is, the Seaplane show is ALL-AGES, while the battle is not. Totally come and hang out! I'm going to make quiet music. Then I'm going to win a laptop battle.

IS jona the cutest thing ever? DOES he have a shiny gold bowling-man? WILL he give you the thumbs up? only time will tell. and then he'll win a laptop battle. xok

[Regarding the laptop battle]

Dude. You. Were. Robbed.

R-O-B-B-E-D.

Robbed.

Glomm? Gimme a fuckin break, your set kicked his ass. Those judges were smoking paint chips.

You, Waterdog and Deceptikon were the top three. Waterdog had a weirdly mellow semi-final, otherwise she would have made the finals. But you were straight up the victim of grand larceny. Grand theft electronica. Bullshit.

I'm pissed.

But the event was fun.

But I'm still pissed.

where was this jona when i failed my bowling class through correspondence?

is it possible that this phil busse is really as hot as he seems?

is it true that gene's comment means that jona did not win?
how is this possible?

rachael @ December 18, 2003 10:45 AM

> how is this possible?

Don't ask me. I was so confident YACHT would win his battle with Glomm that I went to go get a drink halfway through Glomm's mediocre set. Imagine my surprise when I get back and I'm told YACHT was bumped off...

My theory is that the judges were punishing anyone that showed any energy. Any person that jumped up and down or danced (Brian Foote, YACHT, [[[VRRRSSN]]], etc.), was eliminated.

That or they just have bad taste. There was a couple other battles that I thought should have gone the other way, but YACHT's elimination battle was an order of magnitude worse than the others. Even considering my obvious bias, he simply walked all over Glomm's set.

Whatever. Some of the biggest pop stars lost in Star Search. YACHT is headed for bigger and better things...

gene @ December 18, 2003 2:48 PM

the very annoying Goth dudes in front of me seemed very pumped about YACHT, which I took as a mark in their favor, even given their biscuit-y loud manner of expressing themselves and yelling things like "mothafuckin" and slapping each other's backs. I was quietly enraged on your behalf, Boner. Not about the goth kids. About the battle. That was some ballz, there, if you ask me. Ballz in this case meaning "bullroar" and/or "fiddle-faddle." Your sets were quite good, particularly the first one, and I for one shall never listen to electronic music again, if this is the way you shall be treated by it. You are a big fat fish head. Also, please tell Rebekkah B. Beans that we are "on" for this weekend.

Ritchey @ December 18, 2003 4:50 PM
