To clarify, I think that Al Gore WAS robbed of the presidency, and the Sore/Loserman thing is joke on me, not on him. With that, let's talk about this laptop battle that happened last night. Thank you so much to everyone that came and supported me. Thank you Steve for "blessing" my person and my computer. Thank you Lukey Dragon for providing me with crazy music I used for samples and mash-ups. (Also thanks to Drew Daniel, Lightning Bolt, Anna Oxygen and the miscellaneous Mexican dancehall I also sampled). No thanks to the three judges that seemed to run a United States election process circa 2000 scheme. You could say I'm the popular-vote Al Gore-esque laptop battle champ. I don't mean to sound bitter, or conceited at all, but it was just really effing obvious who won the YACHT vs GLOMM battle. (No offense to Glomm, who was a very nice dude! I like his music too! We're talking strictly BATTLE junk) DUDE! Glomm was shaking his head in disgust at the end of his set! He came up to me after he played, but before the judges judged, and told me that he choked because my set blew his mind. I heard from my friend E*Rock, who was one of the judges, that the other judges (excluding Julianne Shepard, who knows what's up) didn't like that I used samples that were easily recognizable. That makes me real sad. Out of battles, like on YACHT and TBK records, I have a rule that I don't use ANY samples that I haven't made myself. All the drum loops, all the field recordings, that's all stuff I've made or played. I brought easily recognizable samples into the battle for the battle specifically! I wanted to get the crowd PUMPED! I got the crowd pumped!
I guess all in all I just have to say what's done is done. If ya'll want to hear a melody repeated for 3 minutes with very, very, very mild tweaking, I guess that's what you want. Next time I'll have to keep that in mind. Also, I shouldn't have jumped around and felt the music, huh? I should have stayed still and/or sat down. That's how you win these things? Have you even heard of a DJ battle? DAMN, GENA.
Oh man, I don't really like the tone of this entry. I hope that this doesn't bum anyone out, or make me look like a jerk. I might delete it later. We'll see. I had SO MUCH FUN at the battle! It was so scary and amazing. My Mom came! She loved it. Scott, E*Rock and Julianne are so nice and so awesome. I love those dudes. SERIOUSLY.
