THE ICE STORM

Hello from Portland, Oregon, home of a very legitimate and overwhelming ice storm. I've been snowed in with my friends Steve Schroeder and Zac Pennington. Today we decided to try and make a Safeway run to pick up things like orange juice, hot chocolate, vegan hot dogs, Gushers™, etc. People, this was not easy. First off, there was about 7 inches of snow piled on my car with an inch of ice chaser on the windshield. Two two-liters filled with hot water seemed to do the trick. Next up we were presented with the challenge of driving in the very, very deep snow. We had to make a push to get out of Steve's driveway and street, which has not been plowed in any sense of the word. We made it to N Killingsworth where traffic was less ghostly and the roads were a little more safe. After getting to the Safeway and picking up our nice things; we returned to the car to find another completely iced-over windshield. The heater inside of the car took care of this one after about 5 minutes of "blasting." Since the trip we've been snowed in and just hanging out. We've been drinking soda and OJ, watching Curb Your Enthusiasm, having States Rights meetings with each other and taking naps.

Steve and I are in somewhat of unhealthy sleeping pattern; go to bed at 4 or 5 AM, then wake up around 9 AM for MacWorld keynote address. I know, nerdsville, right? I mean, that's not our regular schedule, we only did this once. BUT, we have been staying up real late and waking up mildly early. So Apple made these things called iPod mini. It's a real small iPod in a couple cute colors, for a little less moneys. Not worth it, dudes. For $50 more you can get 11 GB more of disk-space, aka 1000s of more songs. I wish it would only cost $100. They also introduced a new recording application called GarageBand. It looks like it could be cool for basic stuff.

Man, this M83 record is blowing my mind. I like it so, so, so, so much.

I drove three times today. Twice on the freeway/Fremont bridge, and once to muffie's house. The way home from Muffie's was the most unsafe of all, as I only had a tiny hole in my windshield I could see through, and no holes at all on the side windows or rear windshield. I got stuck on Williams and Killingsworth, and had to get out of the car and pack snow under my tired to bust myself out. Near the end my car was making this high-pitched keening sound like an animal in pain. Also I had to open my door at every intersection to see if someone was coming. It was really stupid of me to drive so much today and I am glad to be home.

everyone should just stay inside where it is safe, warm and safe. did i mention snow is dangerous and UNSAFE? you could slip and fall, get frostbite, eat poisonous snow, or be eaten by mr. abominable snowman, who especially likes cute little boys and girls that listen to y.a.c.h.t. or you could become a paranoid snow-disliker (NOT HATER!) like me. OR GET HIT IN THE HEAD BY SHARP, DANGEROUS ICICLES! i could talk for hours about the dangers of snows, but jona would yell at me. this is my only public platform! hear my cries! SO BE WARY AND BEWARE AND ALSO, STAY WARM! JEEPERS! SNOW!

I agree with Krystal. It was insane that I drove 3 times today. I am lucky to be here at home. When I was stuck earlier I was thinking, "now look what you did," about myself. Also, snow is COLD.

Snow. It is fun to look at. It is fun to play in. But it is a dangerous and bad thing for the lovely lady Portlandia. They have estimated that the loss of business is on the millions! Plus the overtime pay for Police and road crews, this sort of thing is taking money from the mouths of our children!

To be honest, I hate the "loss of retail dollars" argument. I mean, just because people are making Sanka at home doesn't mean Starchucks is gonna die out. It always make me think of my "patriotic duty to shop" which I normally would find funny, but somehow it makes me feel gross.

Seriously, I think snow is a drag. I want to hit up the Warm Glow Vibe Zone, and I can't. I want to go to my bank and spend money on fancy english shoes (chelsea boots) and cigars and wear my new pink shirt and tie and I really want to play the ponies! But the weatherman is angry, and as the news guy said, we are in a "total cream-out!"

Man, do you think that people will really go for that? That seems real foolish.

WHAT'S UP, ALL YOU SNOWED-IN PEOPLE!

apparently, i am a burger.

krystal @ January 7, 2004 1:51 PM

Snow? BAH! This is nothing, everyone in Portland is just a big wimp. "Look at me, I'm UPS, I can't even make a delivery on time!" boo-effin-hoo.

Alright, I'm being a jerk. The weather is pretty shitty, I know I don't want to be out in it. word.

Cory, you are a snow-snob!
