I'm sorry for the large image, it just didn't look as good cropped in any way. Whiskers was being very, very attention-hungry this morning and I couldn't figure it out.. what was her deal? Why is she squawking at me so much? Turns out Whiskers was just plain hungry. Dude didn't have any food. Little lady just wanted something to eat! Fixed it. She isn't hungry anymore.
I've watched a handful of movies in the past few days with my Mom and various friends. The first showing was of SPELLBOUND, a movie that I saw and loved in the theater. The second time around was just as good to me. Again I couldn't help covering my eyes and biting my knuckles when the kids were spelling their words. I love how this film keeps you on your seat on such a different level than most movies that do this do. A couple days later I watched a Wallace and Gromit short called "A Grand Day Out." I forgot how much I like these animations. Gromit is totally a cool dog, and not just in contrast to the total nerd Wallace, but as a stand-alone, stand-up dude. Gromit is totally cool. Wallace, get effed. Lastly, I watched Lost in Translation for the third time. Every time I've seen this movie, the first time being in a theater in Las Vegas with my radical friend Rebecca, it has left me with a deep, deep yearning to go to Japan again.
My first trip to Japan was in 2001 with my friend Cabel, as part of MacWorld Tokyo and his software company Panic. We mostly stayed in Tokyo and did really amazing tourist-y stuff like checked out Tokyo Disneyland. My second trip was in 2002 on a tour with Dear Nora, Mirah and The Fairways. I was sold merch and served as emotional support for my then-girlfriend Ritchey.This trip was twice as long and we went all around Japan... Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Toyama, Nagoya and back to Tokyo. The shows were incredible. The people were incredible. Rather than staying in hotels like I did with Cabel, we stayed at kids' houses on their floors. So amazing. Such an amazing experience. Dear Nora Katy, Mirah and I played Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" almost every night and it was awesome. I could write all-day about this trip.. but I shouldn't. I have some stuff to do.
RE: Spring. The blossoms are blowing my mind. Apple blossoms. Cherry blossoms. Blowing my mind. So beautiful and fragrant. Portland is my favorite place in the spring/summer. I'm so happy to live here.
Spring in Portland will effing shiv me straight to my grave, but methinks it will be the sweetest death these likes have seen!
The scene in Lost in Transation, where the characters exchange those whispers and embraces, is the last time that I have cried on behalf of a movie. So intense and beautiful.

Japan is beautiful. I haven't been there but I have friends that live there. I hosted some Japanese exchange students who were great fun.
