I've done it. I've finally done it. Jake, Katy.. guys.. I've had Iron Brew! IRN BRU! You guys were overreacting about it being crazy-sugary.. it's not any more sugary than Mountain Dew or even Coke. The taste is a little unique.. sort of bubble-gum-y like Big Red, but also a little orange? Maybe I'm just projecting that flavor because of its orange color.. but maybe I'm not. Regardless, it's a good soda pop.. and only 39p a can! That's sort of a good deal.

I've also been introduced to bangers and mash... a vegan version, of course, but the concept and feeling was still there. Oh my god, so good! So bangers are basically sausages and mash is mashed potatoes. My version had a light gravy as well. So good. So totally good. Thank you Grassroots cafe of Glasgow, Scotland.

Glasgow felt real soft and cool to me. It stinks that we only get a day in some of these places, but it also doesn't stink. When you're on a tight budget it feels awful to have a day off.

On to the show.

The show was set up by a couple kids at a flat called TRAINREC#. They put on all kinds of shows in the flat and at spaces around town. Dudes like Greg Davis, Dat Politics and Kevin Blectum have plays shows with them. Joe, the main kid in charge, plays music called Germlin. He played a super cute and noisy set first off. His computer kept slowing down, but I would have just thought it was the music if he hadn't of made really funny faces and let out a couple "AH! For fuck's sake!"s. Real traditional Scottish expletives. Very funny. He played real loud and the cops came.. they told him that if they had to come back, they would seize all of the equipment. So Alex (Thee Moths) played his sweet acoustic songs, then Wrists + Pistols played a softer set. When it came to be my turn I didn't really know what I was going to do.. all of my shows lately have been mostly centered on louder sounds. The dude will abide. I played an improvised and almost ambient set. It went over real well and dudes asked me for CDs with that sort of vibe.. don't have 'em so much. Soft musics. Luke played after I did and he did sort of a commentary after each song, which were mostly slowed down and sped up animal noises.. it ended up sort of being a comedic Discovery Channel vibe. I liked it a lot. Then Rob employed me and two of the Wrists to back him up on instruments. He got the crowd to sing along and it felt mega good.

The show ended at 4 AM. We walked outside to get some air and it was light out. We decided to take a group walk in the park and Bobby Wrists decided to climb up this very large fountain/sculpture in the middle of the park. Once he was at the top we all feared that he would fall or something.. then a police car showed up and he got down. I thought for sure he would at least get some sort of fine or ticket or possibly arrested.. but nothing happened. They just asked him to get down. That probably not how it would work in the US. Weird.

In the morning we got coffee and said goodbye to our sweet pals Alex and Krissy, and our new sweet friend Joe set us off. Thanks Joe! THANK YOU! I hope to come to Glasgow again.. real soon.

Truly,
Jona
