We're on the road.

Wow. I can't believe that just happened. Safari just unexpectedly quit and I lost an entire new entry. As you can imagine that I'm less than excited about rewriting it and trying to figure out how, right now, at this hotel in Cheyenne, Wyoming at 2:56 AM, to get out of it or become inspired again.. I've spent the whole day in the car and mostly driving, minus a few unsatisfying stops to find food and drink that was pretty crappy. Khaela and I have a show in Grinnell, Iowa tomorrow (Friday) and we're still 678 miles away. Tonight I drove through the most intense snow I've ever seen in my life. I think I was maybe born on a night not unlike tonight... my parents have always told me I was almost born in the car due to the deep Wisconsin December blizzard.. this must have been what it was like. More on that later (with video).

So Boise, Idaho! How are you? Shout outs to Trevor Kamplain and the Jensen brothers. Shout outs to the weird bomb shelter turned venue by night and steel manufacturing offices by day. So weird. What? MEGA shout outs to my best friend on the road and in my heart, Bobby Birdman and his TOTALLY EPIC crew of 1999 and BARR. Make sure you really, seriously go see them play if you have the chance. TOTALLY EPIC DUDES.

Okay, I'm starting to repeat my sad lost entry. All I'm going to say is this.. I loved seeing my old awesome friends Rob and Eric, and I loved meeting my new friend Brendan. Khaela and I both wish that you dudes were on this whole tour with us.

We crashed their show in Boise after realizing that our 28-hour drive to Grinnell from Portland just happened to roll through Boise when they were playing there. I played a short set then Khaela and I played 4 jamms and hit the Pita Pit for some much-needed food. We hadn't had any ting in the car all day. We couldn't find anyone to put us up so the five of us got a hotel room and expelled our new food energy and whatever was left from the show. The result was totally epically loud and hyper boys. So I've just decided that EVERY entry I ever make will just HAVE to have a video with it. I guess this is now a video-blog. GET IN. I've been using Khaela's camera since I'm still without a battery charger after frying mine with UK power. I think her camera might make prettier movies.. just by a little bit.

Thank you so much to Valerie of Bordeaux, France for the magical unicorn hat. Oh my god I love it so much. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

Truly,
Jona

i wish i had had time to turn all my american people into an army of magic wild things. you were so obviously the unicorn. i started making it and then i knew it was for you, kinda it made itself for you in my hands. like i am the instrument of my surroundings, and the instinct-answer to you was the hat. this is what you do. you make people feel like knitting you a unicorn hat for a minute.

I love the very light R. Kelly you can hear playing in the hotel/motel/NO-TEL room.
SUPER CUTE KRITZ!
Once again, Jona, you have ruined a surprise on your blog. I think that awesome cover song those dudes do is supposed to be a surprise.

Nobody would put all of you up?
For shame, Boise.
But, if there is something you can rely on, it is Pita Pit.
Jona, did you meet my mother?

Ratch @ October 29, 2004 11:21 AM

I would have put everyone up if I didn't have a three-month old nursing infant.

You need to post the pictures of e*rock in mid-air between the beds.

Great show, everyone. I'm glad people liked the weirdness of the bomb shelter basement.
