Switzerland, oh Switzerland. Your landscape is dreamy and has treated us hairy fairies with extreme kindness. While I've been the deepest and darkest ever in the heart department (I won't go into it here, for this is not a LiveJournal), you've soothed me with your healing waters via golden lakes. I jumped in Lake Geneva around 3 am, secretly hoping that maybe I would sink like a rand somehow continue to live in the black water until I could deal with life up-top. Only now do I have some idea what poor Ariel (the littlest of mermaids) was going through, but in some sort of bizzarro fashion where land is black water, etc.
We arrived to Montreux after some tedious travel that really started in Norway. The early morning after the Quart Festival (which was our worst show of the tour due to various reasons including our 1:30am start time and the fact that we were the very, very last performance of the exhausting two-week-long festival) we drove back to Gothenburg, Sweden for no real reason other than mixed-up (or some people say bad) planning. Then next morning we flew from Gothenburg to Amsterdam, then Amsterdam to Geneva where two nice minivans from the Montreux Jazz Festival picked us up and drove to Montreux; an hour or so by car from Geneva. I hope this isn't confusing. Meanwhile our driver Kelly and our gear were on a massive drive headed for Zurich to meet up with us a day later.
Riding into Montreux was breathtaking. The mountains and the huge lake really blew my mind. We were rushed into sound check and then it all went by so fast and the next thing I knew I was on the most fancy stage I'd ever played on. While we played there were two huge projection screens to both sides of us featuring live video of our performance with all kinds of fades and camera angles. Here is a photo of the cameraman that was assigned to video me during the entire show. As soon as we were finished there were already 5 photos printed out and posted on the wall of the backstage area. Soon after we were handed two DVDs of the show; one NTSC and one PAL. This sort of stuff is crazy. The future of professional music is frightening. I mean, I guess infinite access to media is good for sharing and spreading good things around, but at this early stage it feels a little overwhelming.. especially when you don't feel especially confident in anything you're feeling or doing, so much. After we played I went straight to the hotel, dropped off my stuff and converted some money from my bank account into "Jazz" via my debit card. All of the little vendors took "Jazz" and this allowed me to eat a falafel while Cocorosie took care of me softly and gave me hugs. Then I jumped into the lake like I said in the first paragraph.. I'm sorry to the Bonny 'Prince' Billy band for leaving before you played. I'm sure you didn't miss me or anything; I'm mostly sorry that I didn't get to see you play. Here's the Montreux BEFORE and AFTER.
The next day the festival people drove us to Zurich where we swapped tour managers for a couple weeks while our original tour manager Johan tour manages his old friends Blues Explosion. Now we have another awesome Dutch-guy named Jan. Like they say; "If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much." We already miss Johan, but Jan seems to be a totally capable, caring, and good human being for the job of tour managing.
Holy Zurich! Have you ever been here? I can't even describe it accurately, so I'm not even going to try. I'll say this though; there is a huge lake in the middle of the city and it's astonishingly clear and clean. I've swam in it twice today and it's really made me feel awesome. We rented boats twice and took them out on the lake. The first time was with Kelly and Jan and the second time was with Luckey and Devendra. Both times Noah and I went out together. You could say that today was a Noah and Jona day. Oh, speaking of, watch my short movie spotlighting our time in Switzerland and a little bit of my tourmate Noah Georgeson:

Here's the EXTREME BEFORE, the real BEFORE and the AFTER Zurich photos. My Flickr photostream is blowing up, check it out.
I tried to make a movie based on the concept of a blooper show that tries to set a trend where waving back at someone that waves at you becomes stupid. So the idea is that you wave at people and then laugh at them when they wave back at you. This idea came from waving at every boat that passed us while on the Lake in Zurich. The movie didn't really turn out and this is why I'm having to explain it here. It's just weird..

Catchin' a Wave

I'm doing okay. Don't worry too much about the dark undertones in this post. When you are mine, I will be yours. We'll mix all the drawers, all the dressers confused, and we'll wear each other's clothes, no one will be sure to know which one's with stupid, or whose grandparents are sexy M.F.'ers in the south of France. When you are mine.
HEY! A nice guy named Graham Leslie made a video for "I Love A Computer" off of "MEGA," check it out!
this tour must be weird without a forkner and k field. that dvd would be awesome to see.
hope the tour treats you better...

Hey Jona, i miss you so bad. We were listening to "i love a computer" in the car on the way to cramberry lake SUPERLOUD with Dirk and Martial and right at this moment i missed you so bad.
Hope everything is okay for you. See you in a month.
I am so happy to see the cabin boy style has not been killed by those with small comprehention. Your life is truely different than mine. I deal with strife and shit while U R party boy. My face is green, like the color of envy, like the color of trees. Only sun slices will save you from being the object of contempt in my shallow mind. Fun party boy, fun times. Rock the world like only you can. The oyster of the world is yours to consume, not like the "brick brack", but something worthy of consumption....Yummy.
jona,
remember 'no bad thoughts, no bad days, no bad dreams, no bad weather, no bad food, etc'

gd
