ONE LONG YEAR FOR ONE OLD MAN

I did it, guys. I really did it. I have managed to survive on this planet for 25 years. 2004-2005 was a real huge one for me: I went through one of the most important relationships in my life; I said I was taking the year off from touring, then I immediately proceeded to tour just as much as the previous year, if not more; I visited countries and cities I'd never been to before; I played drums in front of tens of thousands more people that I'd ever played to before; I rented a relatively large 1 bedroom apartment in N Portland, Oregon and immediately sublet it; I missed my best friend and cat more than ever; and I took something like 6000 photographs with three different digital cameras. I also took a lot of video with those cameras. If you've been to this site before you know that. If you haven't been here before, check out the archives, all the videos are there for you to watch.

To celebrate turning 25 I threw myself a party. I know, it's weird. I even opened it up to the public and charged $5 for entry. I invited a couple handfuls of my favorite people making things like paintings, drawings, performances, videos, and songs for the evening. I totally would have made it free, but I had to rent out Nocturnal and pay for half of my friend Flint's plane ticket so he could come up from San Francisco for the party and perform his incredibly awkward, brilliant, painful, wonderful and confusing "stand-up" routine. If you have the chance to see him perform, you should. He's already been punched in the stomach.

I made a slideshow of every photo I took from December 2nd, 2004 to December 2nd, 2005:

WARNING! This movie could make your eyes and/or head hurt. If you have epilepsy you shouldn't watch it.

I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone that came to the show/party. Did you see these cakes Holy shit! Jac Delorey, you have done it again. Thank you Khaela for helping so much, I was freaking out and I couldn't have set everything up in time without you. In fact, I was stressed out enough to make a pact with myself; I will never throw myself another birthday party again.

Everyone involved in the night made such amazing stuff. We're building an entry on our projects blog with all of the videos from the show and some photos and notes. Maybe there will even be a guide on how to build your very own dream fort in your home. It should be up in the next couple days.

Here is a 20 minute video interview I did while I was in France this summer. Man it was hot that day and I had trouble articulating. Also I think I lost my beard..

UPDATE: I'm in one of the new Tim and Morgan movies. I hope they make these weird movies forever. Literally forever. Dudes, please?

TEST: Eats Tapes in Berkeley, CA (I'm testing a free video hosting site called Vimeo). 20MB a week for free? That seems cool. When I'm touring I post more than that.. I like this! It's much nicer than Google video. Check out this clip!

Again, thank you for making my birthday so totally epic and awesome.

That really hurt my eyes, for real.

It was like watching your (as in you, Jona) life pass before my eyes. I bet it's weirder for you to watch it.

man your 25th birthday party kicked my 30th birthday party's ass!

greg @ December 12, 2005 9:52 PM

hello :) a friend of mine showed me your site a few months ago and i love stopping by here from time to time to see what new videos or photos you have up. i love your creative spirit, it's very uplifting and inspiring.

i had to make a video in moviemaker (ick) as a final project in one of my classes. it had to be made entirely of still pictures. kinda like your video that you just posted (awesome, by the way). the only catch is that we weren't supposed to use music. lame. well i used music anyway... your song "i love a computer". hope you don't mind! if you want to see the video, there's a video of the video (whoa!) here: http://www.vimeo.com/clip=27088

oh, and happy birthday! i just celebrated my birthday as well. :)

Woah! Victoria, you just turned me on to something that seems really cool. FREE video storage? I'm going to test it up there.

Jona @ December 14, 2005 5:27 PM

Yeah, Vimeo is great. How did you embed the video on your site?

victoria @ December 14, 2005 10:02 PM

Victoria, your painting is really amazing! AH! Thank you for showing me the video! Embedding the video: Vimeo spits out HTML when you upload clips. Then you can embed it into HTML wherever you like!

Jona @ December 15, 2005 2:32 AM

jona,

i saw you last with the blow in burlington, vt. i was 'home' (i'm going to school in boston) for just a few days and, forunately, your show fell right in that time frame. it was a really fun show!

so, i just stopped in to say hi. occasionally, check out your site and watch the videos or read up on what you've been doing, haha. i'm going to be taking a month long summer road-trip come june and photographing artists (i'm a photographer) around the u.s., mostly independent artists that i respect. if you're up for being a part of my project let me know. mr. devendra is on my list, too, so maybe you could aid in helping me get in touch with a few people? it'd be awesome if you could e-mail me back, if you get the chance. thanks, jona.

d-d-d-dance,
shane

Thanks Jona for the nice comment about my painting! That video would have been a lot more boring without such good music. And thanks for the help with Vimeo, too. :) Totally bodacious, dude, like, whoa!
