Truest-Homies.jpg

This image belongs to Steve Schroeder after an arduous licensing battle that ending in me forfeiting my rights in trade for a lunch at Don Pancho down the street. I'm sure I'm somehow violating our contract in posting this image here, but then again all of his images on Flickr are under a Creative Commons deed. I think I'm okay.

Now that that's out of the way let's talk about this image. Since I've been home in Portland I've been roped in to doing all sorts of design work. Granted, "roped in" should be more like "have had the awesome opportunity to make things and get paid for them," but really, like everyone else in the world, I would much rather just chill out on iChat and make cool sandwiches and art projects all day. Sometimes even entertainers have to chill out, you know? Anyway, Zac Pennington and I were hanging out and jamming on the artwork for the new CD release of his album ((GRRRLS)); which was previously only available as a 12" LP grooved vinyl phonograph record disc. We decided to walk over to Steve's house and on the way we walked by these two stuffed Mickey Mouse dolls deeply outfitted in human clothes and accessories (the photo up at the top of this page). This post is my first attempt at figuring out the story behind these two stuffed men. Did you see them? Did you put them there? I'll keep you updated, guys. I WILL FIND YOUR STORY, MICKEYS.

Have you noticed how incredibly cold it is outside? Yesterday I tried to use the hose in the back of my apartment building and this is what happened:

Portland Ice Hose

Later on I rode my bike over to the new Tiny's Coffee shop in NE to meet up with my friend Susan and talk about recording this song of hers that I love so much. We're going to make it on Thursday and maybe I'll put it up here if she is into that sort of sharing.

UPDATE: I just made a gnarly dog drawing and turned it into this short animation.

Lastly, if you have read this far I would like to ask you to participate in a quick activity. Reach into your right pocket and remove all of its contents. Now click on the comments link down there and list each item individually. If you feel like you need to explain, please do so. Don't feel shy! If you've never commented here, it's okay! Go for it! Okay, thanks!

JUST A BANDANA IN THE BACK

Maxwell Bass @ December 17, 2005 4:22 PM

1 - nickel (traditional style)
1 - receipt from Safeway (spent way too much money on soda)
1 - bottle cap (Malta Hatuey - weird and good cereal/malt beverage - non-alcoholic. Possibly from Cuba. Here is the company's website but on here it only talks about their beer, and not this more interesting beverage.)

Steve Schroeder @ December 17, 2005 4:23 PM

Way too much stuff, Jona.

More cash than a person should carry (for the poker game I played last night). A half-dollar, seven quarters, two dimes and a nickel. Pocket knife. Antique bottle opener. Uniball Micro Deluxe. Buncha stupid keys.

Keys! Can't my doors and locks use bluetooth now? Eyescan? Save me from keys!

Josh @ December 17, 2005 4:30 PM

Oh!

Your lucky half dollar!

ADMIT IT!!!

It's for luck!!!

knife?? lots of cash?? what are you? some kind of "street tough"?

Steve Schroeder @ December 17, 2005 4:36 PM

$2.50 in quarters

Blair @ December 17, 2005 4:37 PM

Nuttin' in my right pocket. Little in my wrong pocket.

Although, I'll tell you this much Jona: I spent the day packing up my Sister's house (she is moving), so as the day went on, I was filling up the right pocket of the trousers I was wearing with all the screws, dowls and whatnot that had fallen out of various pieces of furniture. Quite a collection, I built - all a-jabbing and a-poking into my leg.

Ice hose = Golly gosh!

UPDATE: I came back to read the rest of your stuff, and rechecked my pockets and THERE IS STUFF NOW:

1. Olive green wallet made by my friend Amy Karr that has a panda face on the inside which I like to pretend is my dog. Two corners are gnawed off, thanks to said dog (the real dog, not the panda dog).

1A. Inside the wallet: The security code for the office alarm, J Crew gift card (thanks mom!), debit card for a bank account that I haven't used in several years, driver's licence, credit card, receipt from the date that I took my date on tonight.

2. $0.36 (one of each.)

3. Crumbs or dirt or something. Part of a stick too.

BORING!!

•Keys on a carabiner with my student ID
•Brown cotton hippie wallet made in nepal
•One-inch button for The Blast, a band in Walla Walla that played last night. I ran sound for them, it was fun because it was the first time they played with the kick drum miced and the bass guitar going through the PA and they were so stunned to hear themselves with all this low end, and so were the kids in the crowd, who danced harder than usual. Lesson learned: Bass drum mic + bass guitar DI = ROCK
•$1.35 in change
•Reciept from a soy nog latte from coffee perk earlier today
•Cellular Telephone
•CD of background music to listen to while i work on my thesis: Radiohead's Kid A

I put my hand in my right pocket and a little crumb got caught underneath my fingernail of my middle finger. This reminded me that i must trim my nails because they are quite long now. It's also winter time and germs are having parties everywhere and having long nails increases the chances of more germs being caught under the nails and therefore increasing the chances of catching the common cold or some exotic disease like the himalayan turkey virus...
