Photo: I drew that note today in Kobe. Full-size on Flickr.
Here's a brief rundown of the past few days here in Japan:
Yokahama: We finally formally met Ian Lynam, a rad designer, ex-portlander, and designer of the YACHT insignia. Also, Unsounds. We're headed back to Tokyo for a couple days off after the tour is over and we're going to chill out very deeply with this nice man. There was talk of boogie boarding.
Nagoya: Lullatone! Shawn is another person I've wanted to meet for a long time. I have these nice people that I email with occasionally and really respect and love their work, but I don't really know what they're like. Touring is the great equalizer of human interaction, and thank Jebuss for that! The Lullatone show was great! They're coming to America soon, make sure you say hello.
The next morning Yoshimi brought us some really soft tofu while we were waiting for the taxi to take us to the train station. It was unlike any tofu I had ever eaten. It was like yogurt without the sweetness or the cultures. Pretty yummy, and pretty weird! THANKS YOSHIMI!
Kobe: Best player in the NBA, hands down. I'm honestly blown away by how the people of Japan are so enamored of American culture that they named an entire city after one of sport's true legends.
After the show in Kobe, we bought cans of Chu-Hi (an amazing fruit-based alcoholic beverage), put on our suits (the hotel-provided robes), and fell asleep to a "DVD rip" of the movie The Warriors.
Also, I found Pepsi's Ice Cucumber drink. I'm pretty sure it's being discontinued because of its obscurity and unremarkable flavor. I was very excited about a cucumber soda, and while this one isn't bad at all, it's not what I wanted. Pepsi is never subtle.
NEW! YouTube videos from Kyoto & Tokyo:

It's totally funny you mention that image for a t-shirt design. Claire and I have been talking about traditional style sunglasses in a t-shirt design for a while and now they're popping up everywhere! My friend Joey in France just sent me a design he made for a sunglasses YACHT shirt and it is amazing! I'm going to make them in three colors really soon.
hey guys...
we're home in vancouver now... after some great days of hotel sleeping and ofuro and shop-a-holicking in tokyo. i will send the slide show once i get it from analog to digital.
thanks again for a wonderful time.
hope to see you soon!

You met Shawn and Yoshimi! They are my friends from long long ago when they lived in Louisville! They are truly the raddest people I know (you know this already). Do you remember a large painting of a whale that hung in every place where I've lived (except LA because it is too heavy)? Yoshimi made that.
You should use that drawing up there (the "I Like What I See")for a t shirt design. White on light turquoise? Light turquoise on white? I think so!!
Only commenting because you are not online right now and I never have internet anymore. Maybe email would have been a better venue. It's like I've started my own subblog, but it's a lil too late to turn back now.
